Sergeant Construction, is providing all tools, materials, labor, and supervision for renovations of approximately 12,000 square feet of finished space, resulting in a fully functional Emergency Department and Observation Unit, located at a Jesse Brown VA Medical Center 820 S. Damen Ave. Chicago IL 60612. The scope of work includes the demolition of an existing operational emergency department and the interior construction and updates of the ER’s existing spaces and systems.
The system upgrades include masonry, metals, openings, finishes, specialties, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, communications, safety/security, nurse call, code blue, and audio visual. Work is performed “off” hours with clean up and turnover performed prior to the starting of each workday.
Co-ordination of the project requires critical tasks for multiple divisions that overlap in multiple locations simultaneously. The project is broken down into six (6) individual phases while the emergency room must remain operational 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
A quality control professional is on site every 2 weeks for reviewing preparatory, initial, and follow up items. RFIs, change requests, and scheduling are reviewed and adjusted between the A/E, owner, general contractor, and subcontractors on a weekly basis.
